Ok Chic Phuket Hostel

The location is excellent in the old town, with lots of food nearby and a 7-11 about a five-minute walk away. It’s not very noisy in the morning or at night, and I felt completely safe. The bus station is an easy seven-minute walk, just turn left outside the hostel and cross one traffic light. The reception was comfortable for working online, with a sofa, two fans, and very cold AC. There was hot water in the shower too. The owner waited until 10pm for me to check in after a horrible travel day, with delays from KUL and a hairdresser salon appointment I was running late for. He was friendly and kind, and his wife let me hang my wet clothes in the backyard. They’re a lovely, hospitable couple running a small business, and it was nice talking with them.

I booked and paid back in June for a January 3 arrival. A few hours before I was due to check in, the hostel staff messaged that the ceiling in my room had collapsed and they couldn’t host me. Either this was a scam or the hostel was very unsafe. I did get my money back, but finding somewhere to stay in Phuket on the same day, just after New Year, was extremely difficult. I strongly don’t recommend this place. Update: The hostel’s response to my negative review speaks for itself. I really could have died there. Be careful.

The owners were very pleasant, and this family-run hostel felt friendly to families too. It was simple and kept clean. Our rooms were fairly spacious, the beds a little firm, and there were lockers for our things. The sliding doors stayed unlocked. Shared bathrooms were outside the rooms and stayed clean during our visit. We were in the inner room, which had no window. That was fine, though it felt stuffier than my friend’s room. I couldn’t tell if it was the AC giving off a slight smell or the closed door and lack of airflow. We started leaving the door open for a while after getting back to let in some fresh air. The AC worked well. There was also a small table that was just right for working, and the balcony was handy for drying clothes after we got wet in the rain. It’s a great spot for walking around old town, with food everywhere nearby. The airport bus stop is 400m away, and the timetable is posted on the wall. The free dragon line bus is close too, with service around the area throughout the day.

Quiet and easy on the budget if you just need somewhere to sleep for a night. Just be aware the room has no windows.
