The Dorm Hostel

I booked a four-bed dorm at Z nite Hostel, but when I arrived they said a system error had left them overbooked. They offered to “upgrade” me to a private room at The Dorm Hostel nearby, which I agreed to, thinking it was fair compensation. I should’ve asked for my money back. The man took me there by scooter while I had my 15kg backpack and a small one in front, and I was terrified the whole ride. The room looked okay at first, but the “upgrade” was just a bed, table, and chair. The sheets were supposedly clean but covered in stains, the room didn’t look clean, and there was no bathroom. It did at least have A/C, thank God. They told me to use the shared bathroom upstairs, which was decent and clean, but didn’t mention the bathroom right across from my room. I only noticed it when I left. I didn’t sleep at all. Google Maps reviews mentioned bedbugs, and the water heater by my room clicked about every 40 seconds. Breakfast the next morning was very underwhelming, and the woman serving it was rude and took her time even though I had to catch a ferry. This review is about both hostels. Neither is worth considering, in my view. Unprofessional and dirty.

The simple breakfast was enough for me, and the little souvenir with my name on it was a thoughtful touch. My bed was dark and cozy enough that I accidentally slept in a few times. It had its own fan, which was great since I sleep hot, and felt private. The hostel is modern, and the woman who checked me in was kind and friendly. I’d stay again if I’m in the area.

The staff were really nice and the location is great, though the bathrooms felt a bit small for the number of people in the dorm. We booked three nights but left after two when I found a live bedbug in my bed. They moved me to another bed, where I found dead bedbugs the next morning. I know this can happen anywhere and isn’t necessarily their fault, but it could have been handled better. Hopefully they get the place cleaned up soon and it’ll be okay to stay in.

I’m 6'4 and still had lots of room in the bed area, plus plenty of locker space. The hostel was really clean, with free breakfast and coffee, and it’s well placed in the Old Phuket Town area. The staff were helpful and nice. It’s a very comfortable place, and I’ll definitely come back.
