Banana Resort

We came just for a meal. The Myanmar lentil and bean vegetable soup with garlic, cinnamon, and cumin was tasty, and the samosas were great. The tempura wasn’t as good, it was fried lettuce. Lovely staff.

The current owner, Pon, is great, and the place is the best. The older bad reviews are about the previous owner. Our room was good, and whenever we needed something fixed or sorted, they were happy to take care of it quickly. The staff are friendly, and the food is really good. We mostly ate Burmese food, and the "lephet htamin" is the best on the beach, as shown in the photo. The location is great, with the best beach on Koh Phayam. We loved our stay and will definitely be back.

We booked five nights, but after the first one we couldn’t stay any longer. The bungalow was in terrible condition and filthy inside and out, with rubbish in front. We saw animals crawling around, and the resort staff were drunk and partying in front of our bungalow until 2:30 am. The doors and windows wouldn’t open because the hinges were rusty and the wood badly warped. Everything inside looked dirty and unsanitary, as if nothing had been cleaned for months. We cleaned the toilet ourselves, but it was still dirty. The sink hung crooked on the wall and held foul-smelling, dirty water. The bed, sheets, and pillows were musty, and after five minutes lying down our whole bodies started itching. We had no locker in the bungalow and no water, even though water had been promised. After waiting an hour, we saw the manager relaxing in his hammock, smoking and listening to music. When we asked him again, he just told us to get water from the bar on the beach. The next morning we tried to discuss what had happened. He said, "no money back," then mocked us with his staff and told us to write a bad Google review if we wanted, because he didn’t care. He was the rudest, most arrogant, and most impolite manager we’ve ever met, and seemed not to care about customers. Other resort managers told us the owner had changed two years ago and that other tourists had faced similar problems and moved to different accommodation. We spent six weeks in Thailand and never had an experience this bad anywhere in the country. We’d stayed in much cheaper and simpler places, but they were all clean and had nice staff. Cleanliness and decent staff seem not to matter to the people at Banana Resort. We learned our lesson and lost 2.700 Baht on a bad, overpriced bungalow.

The food might be the best at buffolo bay. Thai and Myanmar dishes are very tasty and freshly cooked, and they have two pages of vegan options. Try the eggplant curry and the beansprouts with tofu.
