This isn't strictly an adult-only hotel. It's one hotel split into two wings with separate names, one of them adult-only. Adults and families can choose to have breakfast separately or together, and there's a pool and accommodation reserved for adults. The design fits the local surroundings and feels like a welcome change from the repeated look of commercial chains like Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt. The staff were wonderful. Bedrooms were clean, with firm, comfortable beds and a choice of soft or firm pillows. There isn't much space for clothes, even for one person, and there are few electrical sockets, so I had to unplug lamps to charge my phone. No mosquito nets are provided, so bring a bed tent if insects bother you. Rooms overlooking the adult pool get afternoon sun and shade in the morning. The bathroom is clean and functional, but due for updates. Breakfast is mostly South East Asian, with a good range of breads and pastries. It was generally organized well, but on two mornings between 7 and 8am the restaurant wasn't staffed or prepared enough. The fruit and salad bar wasn't ready, and only fried eggs were available instead of eggs cooked to order. The dinner menu had a wonderful selection of Thai dishes, but very few vegan or vegetarian choices. Not every non-meat eater wants tofu, so more variety and creativity would help. Reception were happy to arrange taxis. You can also walk 10-15 minutes to the main road and get one at a nearby taxi rank. The area is provincial, the beach is five minutes away, and the main road has lots of cheap souvenir shops. Restaurants cater to families and kids' picky tastes. It was a bit sad, but predictable, that the area's most popular restaurant served pizza and pasta. For really high-quality dining, I had to visit a five-star chain hotel, or perhaps a boutique hotel.

The service was consistently warm and attentive, and we felt the whole team did everything they could to make our stay go smoothly. Su, Opal, Fleen, Aum, and everyone whose name we didn't catch were always smiling, available, patient, and kind. They handled all our needs with professionalism and genuine care. Housekeeping added a sweet personal touch, too. We'd leave a few stuffed animals on the bed in playful poses, and each evening we'd find them rearranged in a new way, along with a perfectly made bed. Those little details made us smile. Thank you all for the warm welcome and for making the stay so enjoyable.

The spa staff were fantastic. At reception, though, seven staff were very unfriendly, and some were sitting on the counter. Honestly, they came across as disrespectful. Our room still wasn't ready at 3.30pm. The pool was missing lots of tiles, which seemed dangerous, and there were wires all over the place. The room was old, the bed very hard, and the pillows old. None of the TV channels worked. I reported it at reception, but nothing was done. Breakfast was cheap-quality food, very Makro style. We paid 6,500 baht a night!

We stayed in the adults wing at KhoaLak Oriental and it was pure bliss. The pools and layout are thoughtfully arranged, giving everyone a peaceful little space. Breakfast was lovely, with fresh baked items every day and especially nice little banana cakes. Suzy in the breakfast dining room was efficient and friendly, and so was the man cooking the eggs. Housekeeping cleaned our room thoroughly each day and kept it feeling fresh. Thank you.

This was our third stay at Khaolak Oriental Resort, after booking three days in June 2025, and we loved it again. We'll come back every year. The location is perfect for relaxing, with a lovely beach and sea, and there are lots of swimming pools and very good WIFI. The staff were amazing, especially Bee, Few, ,Eva, New, and everyone else. They were friendly and helpful, and the restaurant staff were nice too. Breakfast was good and yummy, and the chef was very friendly. It won't be our last visit!
