The location is central and easy to get around on foot, and breakfast was very good. The front desk staff were lovely and let us leave our bags for free after checkout during the day. The rooms were small but nice and modern. Our view looked out at construction on the building below. The hotel is on the 13th floor of a building that has other hotels too. There’s a gym and sauna on a higher floor at another hotel, available for a fee.

The phone in our room didn’t work, which was another inconvenience during a disappointing stay. Service didn’t feel up to what I’d expect from a four-star hotel. The breakfast space was very cramped and felt crowded, with limited room. We also had to pay extra for laundry, which I’d expect to be included among the standard amenities at this level. There’s quite a bit they could improve.

We used the free luggage storage for a few days while hiking in the Fann Mountains, which was a big plus. The reception is open around the clock, and breakfast is a buffet served from 8-10 a.m. The hotel was comfortable, with clean rooms and a good spot near the city center. The room did lack a fridge.

Being close to Dushanbe’s parks and attractions was the best part of staying at Hotel Baland. The room looked like the photos, but there was no fridge. Staff said it was being repaired when we asked, but with only two nights there, we never got one.

The service made this a really great stay. One or two days before check-in, they had already contacted us on WhatsApp to confirm, and as of May 2024 they provided free airport pickup and drop-off. Breakfast was above average, and the customer service was well beyond five stars. It can be hard to find if you haven’t looked it up ahead of time. The hotel occupies one floor inside a larger building, which also has a cafe and supermarket on level 1.
