Hotel Sahara Douz

The dinner and breakfast buffets were good, and the chefs were very friendly. The waiters were pretty rude when we declined drinks, though, and dinner came with no complimentary water, likely so they could make money on drinks. We couldn’t use the pool because something was being filmed poolside. In the off season there’s no air conditioning. Reception tried to fob my partner off by saying it would be on in an hour, but our guide confirmed that wasn’t true. Ask for a room on the pool side. The hotel is a bit out of town, so you’ll need a taxi. I’m not sure how the star ratings work here, but it definitely isn’t 4 star.

Dinner was the one real letdown. The food lacked flavor, and the coffee was quite poor. The rest of my stay was very positive, though. My room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel was well maintained. The pool is large and beautiful, a lovely place to spend a sunny afternoon. Best of all were the reception staff, who were fantastic, professional, incredibly helpful, and always ready to assist with a smile. I’d recommend the hotel with those reservations about dining.

After six wonderful days at TUI Blue Palm Beach, we spent one night here during our Sahara trip, and it was a complete disappointment. The towels were dusty and worn, and smelled like dirty fish. The hairdryer was broken, the walls were old and peeling, and the staff behaved poorly and couldn’t communicate in English. It was a disaster. I’d never recommend this hotel.
