Mahina Lodge

The basket weaving class was a highlight for all of us, and it was a great cultural day for the kids too. We visited the local school and village and learned about local customs and traditions. Our hosts were wonderful, and lunch at the lodge was lovely. Thanks for a great day at Mahina Lodge!

Rodney & Annie were laid back, down to earth, and super friendly, and we enjoyed the conversations over a few beers in the main lodge. The transfer to and from the main island was pleasant, and the rooms are well designed. Mahina Lodge is a growing new lodge, set among clear turquoise water and abundant sea life, with a lovely holiday atmosphere. The couple plan to add four more lodges over the next few years, which would make this Ofu getaway easier for more adventurous guests to access. A rare gem in Vava’u, and a great place to get away from the city.

The cultural morning on Ofu Island was a real highlight of our time in Vava'u. We learned about weaving traditions, visited the primary school to watch the children perform, and got a feel for the island's history and way of life. Rodney and Annemarie then welcomed us to Mahina Lodge for a delicious lunch that felt homemade and carefully prepared. They showed us the chalets too, which are beautifully designed and look ideal for a quiet, relaxing island stay. We left feeling connected to the local culture and people, not just like visitors. Highly recommend it to anyone coming through Vava'u.

Ann and Rodney were such lovely hosts. You can tell how much care they've put into the lodge, and we loved the stories, laughs, and killer pizza. Wishing them all the best until next time! Mahina Lodge feels peacefully tucked away at the tip of Ofu Island. Kayak one way for turquoise water, great snorkeling, and an uninhabited islandscape that feels like your own little paradise. Go the other way, or take the short nature trail, and you'll reach Ofu village and its friendly residents. Vava’u's main island is only a short boat ride away.
