Royal Ezel Hotel

I came with a friend and we were both happy with the stay. The staff were very nice, and the price made sense for this kind of city hotel. I don't really get the bad reviews expecting full resort service at a beachside ultra deluxe place price. You can't pay less than half a thousand euros and expect that kind of service.

At check-in, we were told the room cost €46. We paid with €50, but the receptionist gave the change in lira. When I checked the conversion, it came to about €2.50. He said the rate was €1 to 37 lira, though the exchange he used was closer to 30; even the airport was offering 41 lira at the time. After I challenged it, he said he'd give me 20 lira the next day. The amount isn't the main issue. Trying to benefit from the exchange rate was unprofessional and left a very bad impression.

We reserved three rooms through booking.com, but the morning receptionist initially refused to hand them over because we hadn't booked at the counter, and wanted roughly 10,000 lira extra. We eventually got the keys after being told three times to pay by card, supposedly to avoid tax charges. The rooms were tiny and smelled, and the bathroom was very small with mold all over it. Staff were extremely rude, and at one point told us to buy our own toilet paper at the local supermarket. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, and wouldn't give it even one star. Better service in prison, probably.

For the price, I was impressed. The rooms were roomy and clean, with modern décor, and the staff were attentive. It felt more comfortable than I expected for what it cost.
