Pergamon Pension

A cozy little guest house right in the middle of Bergama, with an owner who speaks English. There’s a small garden with seating, and the more than century-old buildings are full of eclectic details.

I really enjoyed the breakfasts, but check whether they’re included in your rate. On two of the three mornings, couples were told breakfast wasn’t part of their tariff. My room had either very weak Wi-Fi or none at all, though it worked okay near reception. The property is friendly and attractive, and the location is excellent. I liked my room and its views up to the Akropoli. Very good value.

The old house is beautiful, and the garden on the ground floor and open-air rooms are lovely. It’s a fantastic pension in the heart of Bergamon, and the breakfast was the best I’ve ever seen. The historic character does mean the rooms are dated and could use an update. Parking in the narrow streets is very difficult. Our ensuite also had an unpleasant smell, probably from the ancient plumbing.

The garden was a few degrees cooler than anywhere else, so that’s where we liked to spend our time. The building has plenty of character and was very clean, and our hosts were friendly and hospitable. Breakfast was amazing. My one gripe was the air conditioning, which blew straight at the head of the bed and made it a bit uncomfortable at night.
