Armar Hotel

I've visited Istanbul at least 15 times, and this was by far my worst accommodation. I'd give zero stars if I could. The manager was ignorant and acted like a fool while they refused to provide something I'd already paid for. Breakfast was included in my booking, but they said they didn't provide it.

The father and son hosting us were so lovely, helpful, and generous, and the çay was delicious. From the moment we walked in, it felt like being welcomed into a family, which is rare. Our room was clean, fairly modern, and had what we needed. Armar hostel is in a great spot, about a 15/20 minute walk from the spice bazaar and even closer to the Grand Bazaar. I’d highly recommend it in Istanbul if you're on a budget and care more about a friendly family welcome than luxury. I hope I can come back. Spas!

The mouse in our room was the last straw. Reception came to look after we reported it, but said nothing could be done until morning and wouldn't move us to another room. We left at 3 AM and received no refund. This was meant to be a four-night stay with breakfast included. On the first day, when we asked about breakfast, we were told everything was closed and none was available. The staff were rude, especially one overweight employee who was particularly unfriendly and unhelpful. The room didn't look like the online photos. There were visible blood stains on the bedsheets, and the bathroom ceiling was covered in mold, humidity, and stains. Noise also made it impossible to rest properly. A very disappointing experience, and I strongly advise others to avoid this hotel.

Room 801 on the 6th floor had a nice view, but the balcony was dirty. There were gaps above and below the door that let in the emergency hallway lights, and none of the bathroom sinks had covers. The emergency exit door couldn't be shut, so anyone could enter the hotel from outside on the 6th floor. Our room key was a passe-partout, too. Room 302 was on the first floor, with street light coming into the room at night. Its fridge and TV didn't work, and half the lights were out. Staff would say they'd come in 10 minutes when we complained, but nobody showed up. The manager just smiled when we spoke with him. They promise you Paradise, then you have to spend 30 minutes arguing to get even half of it. I'd spend my money somewhere else.
