Beytul Galata

Room 106 was in an unsafe, badly maintained state. There were exposed nails in the floor, damaged walls, broken blinds, visible damp, a toilet that wouldn’t flush, and a TV that never worked. The bed was placed so awkwardly that getting around it was difficult. The entrance stayed dirty and was used for storage, while smoke kept coming through the connecting door from the next room. The place didn’t resemble what was advertised and fell far below basic standards for hygiene and guest care. The hotel ignored complaints sent through Booking.com and refused to provide a complaints book when I asked, despite being legally required to do so. I’ve formally reported the situation to Turkish authorities. The Municipality of Istanbul is investigating the property over concerns that it may be operating without a valid tourism license. I’ve also escalated the case through the European Consumer Centre and contacted Booking.com internationally. This was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. It raises serious concerns about safety, legality, and consumer rights. I strongly advise people to avoid it.

I’m disappointed to leave one star, but people should know the place looks nothing like the photos. The building is old and seems to be falling apart. Depending on the room, the bathroom can be so cramped there’s barely room to sit down. The sheets were dirty, so I asked for replacements. The new ones still had stains, though they looked a bit better. And don’t count on the reservation team if something goes wrong before your trip. They weren’t willing to help. If you still can, cancel and book somewhere else :)

The Wilson Galata Hotel is in a great area for walking around, close to Galata Tower, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Those were the real positives for me. Inside, there were several problems. Water often stopped during the day, so showering or washing properly wasn’t possible. The room also got very cold at night. There was no proper heating, just an air conditioner that barely warmed it up. Sound traveled easily through the thin walls, especially around the bathrooms. You could hear the next room and they could hear you. The neighbors made intimidating, uncomfortable noises that carried through the walls, so it was hard to relax. There were also small holes in the bathroom wall. The entrance through the restaurant looked dull and unlike the Booking.com photos, and going through the restaurant to get to the room elevator felt strange. Heating, noise insulation, and the water supply all need work.

The coffee was the only good part. The hotel feels like it’s falling apart, and the rooms are old with dirty sheets. If there’s a booking mistake, you get no support. I’m extremely disappointed.
