Hotel Royal Tophane

Breakfast had lots of choices and was delicious, and my deluxe room facing the main street was clean, roomy, nicely decorated, and comfortable. The staff were lovely and helpful, especially Mahmut, who was friendly and always ready to lend a hand. Galata Port is an easy walk away, and Tophane tram station is about two minutes away, so getting around was simple. Great value for the money. I’ll definitely come back on my next visit.

The rooms were clean, and the staff and room service were very friendly. Breakfast was filling and tasty. There are all kinds of local, authentic and modern bars just steps away. I’d definitely recommend staying here to my friends.

The smell throughout the hotel was unpleasant, and I found the food extremely bad. I also couldn’t understand why the lobby toilet door was left open all the time. To me, that was disgusting. The building itself looks like it could be from the 18th century. Our room had no telephone, and the toilet brush was broken when we arrived. After several trips back and forth, we got a replacement three days later, as far as I remember. There was also a flickering light coming from a shaft in the evenings, which looked strange and worrying to me. We told reception, and they said they’d handle it, but nothing happened even after we followed up two or three more times. In my personal experience, the rooms were very dirty. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend Royal Tophane in Istanbul.

The staff were amazing and so helpful, and breakfast was very good. The hotel is in a central location. Our room was a letdown, though: the windows didn’t shut properly and kept blowing open during a rainy night. It also wasn’t really clean, especially the balcony, which was a disaster. The toilet was missing its door knob too.
