Istanbul Golden City Hotel

A few days ago I left my phone in a taxi by accident and assumed it was gone. Ali, the hotel manager, immediately took charge: he contacted the taxi company and police, tracked down the driver, and made sure the phone got back to me. The driver denied having it and seemed to be trying to keep it, but Ali’s persistence and honesty got it returned. The care, integrity and professionalism he showed are rare. The hotel has been wonderful in every way, with kind, helpful people who really care about guests. I can trust this place in Istanbul and highly recommend it.

Mahmut at the front desk really made the stay for us. He checked in whenever he saw us and made sure we had what we needed. He’s the kindest and most helpful front desk manager we’ve met, and his professionalism stood out. Some of the other reception staff came across as a bit rude, which made the difference even clearer. Management should recognize and promote him, he’s a real asset and gives guests service they remember. We spent three nights at Golden City Hotel Istanbul and had a very good experience. The rooms and bathrooms were compact, but clean, well maintained and comfortable for a city visit. The hotel had the comfort and service level you’d expect from a 4 to 5 star place, just on a smaller scale. The location was excellent, beside a busy stop and about a five-minute walk from the Old City. The terrace breakfast area had beautiful views, though there was an extra charge to sit with the view. Still, it was a pleasant way to start the day. For us, the stay was perfect, and Mahmut made it even better.

The room itself was clean and there weren’t any problems with it, but we had booked a double and were given a twin instead. The staff were kind and helpful, and reception was easy to reach; they also offered baggage storage. One morning, someone from room service opened our door around 6 a.m. and shut it straight away, which felt uncomfortable. The rooftop restaurant was nice, though the food was average. The elevators are extremely small.

The restaurant was a real highlight for us, with tasty food and attentive service. We also found the room clean and comfortable, a welcome place to unwind after a day out exploring. The staff were friendly every time we spoke with them, and happy to offer useful suggestions. We had a wonderful stay and would happily recommend the hotel to anyone looking for an enjoyable visit.
