Juliet Rooms & Kitchen

I try to be understanding with businesses, but this was probably my worst experience in the last couple of years. The good part was that the staff were always kind and tried to fix things. The cleaning lady quickly agreed the room was dusty and cleaned it after we pointed out the dust under the bed and on the tables. The location was good too, but the rooms and amenities really need to change. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Half an hour later, we found that the bathroom sink only had boiling hot water, with no cold water to wash our faces, and an electrical outlet was falling apart. The toilet wasn’t very clean either. They moved us the next day to a bigger room, but the air conditioning barely worked even though it said 18 degrees, and the tub had no hot water. They sent a plumber and got that fixed. Then we woke up at night to ants everywhere, a whole colony. They didn’t seem like they’d bite, but my husband ended up badly bitten. The rooms are quiet, the beds are comfortable, and the staff are friendly. There are a few restaurants nearby, though you have to walk a few blocks to reach them. The bathroom needs attention: there’s black mold on the walls and in the shower, and it smells. I’m guessing it hasn’t been scrubbed with something like Scrubbing Bubbles or bleach. It really needs a proper cleaning and something to kill the mold and get rid of the odor. Aside from that, this hostel is great. I’m here now.

After finishing the Transcontinental Race by bike, I stayed in a six-bed women’s dorm at the "Juliet" hostel and had a wonderful time. There are lots of little restaurants and bars in the area, and just about everything is within walking distance, from coffee and croissants to dinner, ramen, laundry, and shopping. Great people, lovely service, and breakfast too!

I felt safe and welcome at Juliet Rooms and Kitchen, and I’d happily recommend it to other travelers. My room was comfortable, the food was delicious, and the staff were both warm and professional. It’s in a quaint, relatively quiet part of Kadikoy on Istanbul’s Asian side, and the place is very well run. Getting there and finding my way around was easy. You won’t regret staying here!
