The Local

The staff were great and helpful, and my simple room had a nice balcony facing the sea. The Local Hostel & Guesthouse is about a five-minute walk from the Blue Mosque, but sits on a quiet street away from the crowds and touristy restaurants. I also liked the little complimentary breakfast box to start the day. Thanks for a great stay!

For the money, this was just right for me. My room was spacious and clean, and the old city location made it easy to get around. The manager was friendly and helpful, and he's a football fan who clearly loves his friend the cat. I forget the cat's name, but it's beautiful and has a lovely nature. The coffee was good too. If I had to pick a downside, the breakfast was only a small offering.

I loved how peaceful my stay was, and the room looking out to the ocean was perfect. There's a cat that hangs out on the balcony, and I loved every minute of being here. The owner was welcoming and did everything to keep me comfortable. The workers were friendly and accommodating. It's close to everything on foot, with the train right there. I felt safe travelling alone: there's a keypad at the entrance, and an employee sits by the doors to greet and talk with guests. If you have a concern, tell them and they'll help however they can. We booked three nights in a double room in the building with the roof terrace. The owner welcomed us warmly, but showed us to a very basic twin room in the cafe building instead. We were too tired to question it at the time. After a poor night's sleep on an old, sagging mattress, and seeing how much the room needed refurbishment, we checked out. Breakfast was a polystyrene tray in the room. We got no refund, and our Hostel World booking was cancelled, so we couldn't leave a review there. The place is central, but for the price, the rooms and overall quality need a lot of work. I wouldn't recommend The Local.
