Konak Saray Hotel

The staff were lovely, and I slept well because it was quiet. The price was very low, with the shopping area only a block away and the agora ruins even closer. My room, though, had furniture that was all in poor repair, including a broken window. The place wasn’t dirty, but the air conditioner took ages to cool down the small room.

For what you pay, you get what you’d expect. The staff were very friendly and breakfast was decent, but the hotel sits in the middle of a local market, a location I wouldn’t recommend to overseas visitors. The room was tiny, with nowhere to put luggage. The bathroom was dirty, moldy, and had a broken shower door. A medium-sized fridge and an unnecessary dresser took up even more space.

The staff are great and always willing to help, and everything was clean. Some of the room items were in poor shape, though, and the place could use a little work to reach its potential. It’s tucked into İzmir’s narrow streets, but there is parking, which is hard to find at city hotels under four stars. Keep in mind there’s no elevator, so it may not work for someone with a disability. With some repairs, I’d give it five stars.

Breakfast was the one good thing about my stay. There was a lot of mold around the hotel. From what the person at check-in told me, the owner doesn’t care about cleaning or upgrading the place. They also implied it wasn’t somewhere for women to be alone. The street was really loud in the middle of the night, even though the hotel is in the middle of nowhere.
