The staff were excellent and helped with everything we asked, including finding parking, which is a real challenge in Mardin, and carrying our luggage. The hotel is on a narrow street cars can’t reach directly. Our room was clean, and the stay was pleasant, though a few fixes could make the hotel much better. Some rooms have windows that open onto the inner hall rather than outside. That lets in some fresh air, but the bathroom drain smell still comes through. I covered it with a towel, which helped about 85%, so I’d ask for a room with a proper outside window if possible. Also, small bits of stone sometimes fall from the walls onto belongings. Nothing landed on the bed, but it seems like something that could be fixed.

The hotel sits right in the heart of town, though there are lots of steps between it and the main road, so it may not suit older guests or anyone with limited mobility. From the courtyard, the place feels like a step back in time, and the views across Mesopotamia from the terraces are breathtaking. We stayed in the Mesopotamia room and felt like royalty. It was one of the most unique hotels we’ve stayed in. Each morning brought a lovely Turkish breakfast, and manager Naif went out of his way to welcome us and make things comfortable. Turkish hospitality at its best.
