Tempus Hotel Taichung

The website photos didn’t match what we found, and I was surprised by the room condition and facilities, which felt more like a two-star place. I paid almost 7,000 NTD for a suite, but it was nearly motel level. I wanted to cancel, but it was too late. I’m sorry my family had to stay here. A newly built three-star hotel would be better.

It was quiet enough for a business stay, but after one night I would have asked for a refund if I hadn’t been there for work. The hotel is described as five-star, though two-star feels more realistic. The room and shared areas were dusty and dirty, and the furniture showed wear and damage. The layout was odd, with no room window. The only view was a building site, seen after climbing across the bath to open the bathroom blinds. The elevator call buttons didn’t always summon the car. Underground parking was badly laid out, with many spaces restricted for private companies in the hotel building. Breakfast was poor: the coffee wasn’t good, and the orange juice tasted more like water than orange. Sorry, but the place needs drastic improvement.

The beds were yellow, and the air conditioner vents were dirty and moldy. The room smelled musty, and the windows couldn’t be opened to air it out. Within five minutes my nose and throat were already acting up. The lighting was frustrating too: only two switches for the entire room, one for the bathroom and one for everything else, so you couldn’t turn on just the desk or bedside lights. I have no idea why this is called a five-star hotel. I’d rather sleep at the MRT station than here, and definitely recommend against staying.

The duvet was the best part, luxurious and very comfortable. Breakfast also had a lot going for it: the hours ran from 7:00 am-11:00 am, the selection included Asian and Western food, and the scrambled eggs were excellent, possibly the best I’ve had at a hotel. The room, though, felt stuffy, dusty, and musty as soon as we walked in. The interiors were outdated, with wallpaper peeling in several places. Another group in our party had the room next door and found the same issues. We also saw mold around the air vent and on the ceiling. I’m not sure why Google labels the hotel five-star.
