Sky Gate Hotel

The hotel is right in the middle of Ximending Night Market, and Ximen MRT is about a five-minute walk. Staff were accommodating and very helpful, and our room was clean with basic amenities. The main inconvenience is the shared elevator: the hotel is on floors 12 and 13, above shops including a cinema and several restaurants. During busy periods and movie showings, lines can get extremely long. We once waited almost 15 minutes in the hotel lobby. Try to come and go outside peak times, especially if you have a flight to catch.

We’d happily stay at Skygate Hotel again on a future Taiwan trip, perhaps booking a better room. It was a great fit for our family and the price was reasonable. The hotel is on the 12th floor, with Ximen MRT Exit 6 right next door. Downstairs are plenty of places to eat, including Hong Kong and Japanese food, Mala hotpot, and a cinema. Xing Fu Tang and Ay-Chung Flour-Rice Noodle are just a few steps away. We appreciated the daily room cleaning and fresh towels. We could sometimes hear the neighboring room’s toilet flush, but it was manageable and didn’t disturb our sleep. The front desk had complimentary bottled water to take when heading out, and there were free instant noodles for late-night snacks, plus snacks, soft drinks, coffee, and hot water available around the clock. You can even spot Taipei 101 from the front desk window. We didn’t have a local Taiwan phone number and needed help booking a restaurant. A male staff member with glasses patiently called several times, then asked us to go back to our room while he tried again. He called back soon after with the successful reservation and carefully checked the details. Really caring, professional service.

The only snag was the elevator, which is shared with the cinema in the same building. Getting back up to the hotel could take a long time. We spent one night here as a family of four and were allowed to check in early once our room was ready. The hotel is right in the middle of Ximending, with lots of food and entertainment nearby. Service was excellent, and the snack bar had plenty of treats and drinks to grab.

I spent five days and four nights in Taipei at Skygate Hotel. With food and shopping all around and the metro making it easy to get about, the Ximending location was very convenient. The staff were friendly and helpful. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Taipei for the first time.
