Sunrise Business Hotel Ximen

Getting there for my first Taipei visit was easy, with Google Maps guiding us to the hotel on the main road, and the Agoda booking went smoothly. The lobby had only two small chairs, but they let us check in an hour early. English communication was a little difficult, though the staff were patient and tried to understand and help us without getting frustrated by the language barrier. The unit is small but has what you need. Air conditioning is centralized, the thick comforters are cozy, and the shower and water heater work well. There's no bidet, and the TV works but isn't a smart TV, so you can't stream YouTube. We asked for an extra garbage bag and tissue paper, and they brought them without any problem. Breakfast is served at a restaurant next to another private establishment, and it opens on time. FamilyMart, McDonald's, Starbucks, and Decathlon are nearby. Many thanks to Sunrise Business Hotel.

The free breakfast at Louisa's was a letdown, especially the sandwiches, and the coffee was only okay. McDonald's across the street is a better option. Still, we'd stay here again if we got the chance. We were there in October 2024 and booked through Agoda. Check-in was seamless, and the friendly, efficient clerk greeted us with a smile whenever we left in the morning or came back at night. The room was reasonably clean and spacious enough for a couple. The bed and climate control made for a good night's sleep, and the little fridge was handy for cold drinks and snacks. Turning the shower to full blast sent some water onto the bathroom floor. The location is fantastic, with a 24/7 Carrefour across the street and McDonald's, Haidilao, and Sushi Express in the same building. A self-service laundromat is a few minutes' walk away, and the MRT station is about a 10-minute walk. I forgot to post this review earlier, but still wanted to share our experience.

The rooms were extremely dirty, and the so-called double bed was actually two twin beds. I asked them specifically to clean some dirty spots, but they ignored the request. The air conditioning and heating seemed wired backwards. I've never stayed in such a disastrous hotel. Being close to Carrefour was its only redeeming feature.

We stayed eight days and seven nights in July 2023. We chose a superior room, which was a little smaller than expected but clean and very comfortable. It had a kettle and hair dryer, and the bathroom was spotless with a bathtub. There was no shower curtain, and the strong water pressure sent water splashing around, though it dried quickly. The hot water was very hot. The front desk service was so good I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Check-in was quick, staff were friendly, and they responded swiftly and helpfully to every request. We had thought the hotel had a washing machine and dryer, but that was true a long time ago. There's a laundry shop nearby, called Electrolux or something, about a six-minute walk away. Washing costs 60 NTD and drying is 10 NTD per five minutes. There are plenty of nearby restaurants and cafes, and a 24-hour shopping center opposite the hotel has pretty much anything you might need. Buses are plentiful and make getting around easy. UBER is another option and, in my opinion, not expensive. From Taoyuan Airport, I'd take the airport MRT to Taipei Station and then UBER if carrying a lot of luggage. Without much luggage, the bus works if you have a YouYou card. For the price, it's very good value for one traveler or a couple. Groups of more than two might need one or two extra rooms. Great front desk service, and well worth the price.
