WESTGATE Hotel

The staff were outstanding, friendly, and very helpful, and the breakfast was delicious. Our room was well appointed, and we appreciated the bidet. The Westgate is in a fantastic spot, around the corner from the Blue Line MRT and one stop from Taipei Main Station. We had a wonderful stay and hope to visit Taipei again. We’ll definitely stay at the Westgate next time.

We booked a Deluxe Room for five nights, and it was a really pleasant stay. The location is great, just a 1-2 minute walk from xmd station exit 6, and I’d definitely stay at Westgate again when I return to Taipei. The entrance staff greeted us each morning, which made our day, and check-in was easy with clear instructions. Debbie helped us find a local food item from Yilan, searching for an address where we could get it in Taipei. When it arrived at the hotel, they let us keep it in the freezer until checkout. Breakfast was okay. There’s a washer and dryer for laundry, but only one set, so you need to go down early before other guests use it. The room was cleaned every day and the cleanliness was excellent. I loved the mobile stand in the toilet. We also left some clothes for the housekeeper to send for recycling. Great staff, great housekeeping, and a great stay.

I picked this hotel after reading good reviews, partly because it’s right by a subway stop and seemed easy to reach from the airport. The hotel itself is perfectly nice, and the service was attentive. But if your flight gets in early or you need to stay late, think twice. I asked about early check-in when booking. They said arriving in the morning would cost a full extra night, and coming between noon and 3 PM would mean an extra half day. I tried to cancel, only 12 hours after making the reservation, and they refused. AMEX hadn’t mentioned any of this either. I was passing through Taipei again later, so I asked to move the booking to a different night. They said all the reasonably priced rooms were sold out and offered a deluxe king suite for about twice what I’d paid. For only a little more, I could have booked a fine hotel or resort with guaranteed early check-in, at much less than double the advertised price. I’m sharing this so anyone arriving early can avoid the same surprise.

We stayed for three nights in Ximending, where the hotel is in a very busy, popular tourist area. Our weekend rate was about USD 110 a night, which seemed reasonable. The location made getting around easy: it’s near Exit 6 of Ximen MRT station, and taxis are usually waiting at the stand right outside. The room had a double bed but no window. It was small, clean, and had all the basics, and I was very happy with its quality. They brought two bottles of water each day, plus soft drinks, which was a nice touch. There’s also a fitness room and washing machine on the second floor. Staff were polite and offered help without being asked. Breakfast was very good, with Taiwanese options like braised pork rice and gua bao.
