We booked Malika Nungwi Hotel for 2 nights expecting a 4-star stay with basics like air conditioning and a decent breakfast. It was the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had. If zero or negative ratings were possible, we’d choose one of those. Power was a disaster. It went out for hours, came back briefly around 1:30 am, then cut out again in the morning. There were no fans in the room, and without electricity or air conditioning the heat was unbearable. Our children couldn’t sleep. The breakfast was nowhere near 4-star quality, with almost no proper dishes and nothing suitable for the kids. We couldn’t even get scrambled eggs with cheese. With nothing else for them, we tried making chocolate sandwiches, but a staff member attempted to take away the Nutella, which was shocking and uncomfortable. Staff showed no empathy or concern. We waited more than an hour at reception to speak with the manager or owner, but nobody came. Eventually we were told to stay in our room if we were unhappy, an unacceptable response. Other guests had the same problems: one couple said they had to find the electrical breaker themselves to get their room power back because they couldn't even turn on the lights. Another family said their stay was horrible too and planned to ask their booking agent to handle it. The hotel is expensive and marketed as 4-star, but in our view it doesn't deserve even 1 star. Booking.com reviews and photos are misleading. Google reviews were relatively better and gave a clearer idea of the real situation, which unfortunately we only read after checking in and paying. We’re writing this so others don’t go through what we did. We strongly do not recommend Malika Nungwi Hotel to anyone!

We stayed nine nights, and the hotel unfortunately fell short of its advertised 3-star rating. Noise was a constant problem: on several nights, guests were very loud until 2am, with doors slamming and noise in the corridors. The owner did not step in or address it, making it hard to relax or sleep. Room servicing was inconsistent. Some days it wasn't done until 4pm, and other days it wasn't done at all. We often had to ask for fresh towels. The host never engaged with us during our stay, and the staff did not seem properly trained in customer service. Dinner was repetitive, with the same meals each evening. We appreciated that the host provided simple alternatives after we asked, but we shouldn't have needed to prompt for that during a nine-night stay. The pool closing at 6pm was disappointing, especially after a day out when guests return later in the afternoon. Outside lighting was also very poor, leaving the property feeling unsafe and unwelcoming at night. Based on our experience, it did not meet the expectations of a 3-star establishment, and we would not return. Better responsiveness from management, staff training, consistent housekeeping, and guest experience could make it much better.

We paid for three rooms advertised on Booking.com and Agoda as king deluxe rooms, but what we got felt like a dump. There were cockroaches under our pillows, and when we told the owner, he suggested we might have put them there. The towels smelled awful, and we waited almost a whole day to get bath towels at all. The room door was another problem. It wouldn't open properly from either side. The owner's son came to lock it after my husband said it locked but stayed open, yet when we went out for New Year and came back, the door was open again. The taps were disgusting, the shower water was salty, and the mattress was old and worn out. This is listed as a four-star place, but to us it was worth one star. We also saw people arrive, look at their rooms, and leave. It felt like we had been scammed. Watch out.

We paid $700 for two nights, and the facilities and service didn't even feel like one-star quality. There were no fans in the room, the power kept going out so the AC couldn't run, and nothing in the room seemed to work. Breakfast was terrible, with practically nothing to eat, and they even charged us for water. I asked at reception to speak with the manager about these problems. He was apparently at the hotel but wouldn't come out to talk. Choosing this hotel was the worst decision of my life. I feel tourists are being scammed, and I hope the place shuts down soon. Please take this seriously.

I spent nine nights here in December 2025 and didn't get much rest. Doors slammed, and there was noise until the early hours. The hotel doesn't live up to its rating; it felt more like a dressed-up hostel. The rooms were cleaned very late, or not at all, and the staff didn't seem well trained. Management didn't engage with guests or deal with complaints. Meals were repetitive, and breakfast didn't even have yogurt. There were power cuts lasting several hours every day, with no emergency lights in the rooms. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant, peaceful stay.
