The beach is a good 15-minute walk along an off-the-beaten track. This is a simple lodge in Kigamboni, and the rooms are adequate, with a bed and a bathroom separated from the room only by a curtain, no door. We had no electricity the entire night we stayed, which was a real problem. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I came to SandRocks for a yoga weekend, and the quiet atmosphere was lovely. There were birds singing, nice food, and music around the fire in the evening. I left feeling very relaxed. Lovely place, lovely people, and peace.

This village-style lodge offers weekend stays and bed and breakfast, just 350 meters from the beach. The host is a wonderful cook and knows cakes inside out.

The kids enjoyed the big garden, little playhouse, and bonfire at night, and managed the 10-minute walk to the beach just fine. We’ve stayed twice. The staff were very responsive, and by our second visit they’d made changes we’d asked for the first time, including putting a mosquito net on our window. Some items described as complimentary, like wifi, need to be requested, so speak up if you need them. SandRocks lets you enjoy one of Dar’s most beautiful beaches on a budget. The beach is pristine, empty, lovely for swimming, and great for sandcastles. We haven’t found another option in the 100,000 per family per night range, so without SandRocks we couldn’t access this spot. The rooms are simple but adequate, with comfortable beds, mosquito nets, and clean conditions. Ask for extra towels, pillows, or sheets if you need them. It’s an eco lodge, so shower pressure is low, and you rely on breezes rather than fans to cool off. If Dar’s heat and humidity bother you, the windier middle months of the year may suit you better. There’s no restaurant menu, so you can request what you like. Casey takes pride in the food. We’ve had tasty calamari, prawns, fish, and more. Breakfast was toast, omelettes, fruit, and milk tea. Just agree on meal prices when you arrive.

A fun place to watch football and spend time with kids. The music and food are nice.
