Africa Safari Selous

The buffet had lots of choices and everything I tried was really tasty. The rooms were comfortable too, and the showers were great. Loved every second of our safari stay.

The people are what I’ll remember most. Everyone at the camp was welcoming and helpful, and when we spent Christmas there, they did their best to make it feel special. The park experience also stood out. On our second drive, it was just my family and me, so we asked the guide and driver to take it slower than the day before. We could leave the main tracks and look for African wild dogs. We didn’t find any, but saw lots of other game, much of it close up. Away from the main routes, we could enjoy the quiet of the bush without a crowd of idling Land Rovers. The camp itself feels overpriced for what you get. The rooms are basic and a bit grungy, though the maids keep them clean. There was termite dust all over the rock-hard beds. Power cuts were frequent, so charging phones, cameras, and watches was hit and miss. Internet access was limited to the bar and reception. Having lived in TZ for 8 years more than 15 years ago, I find it mind-boggling that the power situation is still like this. The camp is just outside the park, and the drive in isn’t appealing, with unfinished greenhouses and construction debris spoiling the view. Once inside, what you see depends on your luck that day. The camp should offer more for the price, but the staff and time in the park are what stay with you.

The food was lovely, and the service was nice. It was very hot in the room, though, and I wasn’t happy that there was no air-conditioning, just ceiling ventilation. We didn’t have enough time to enjoy the swimming pool, but the facilities were there. A nice place to stay overnight during safari.

We had a great safari here, with animals even inside the lodge. We met Alex the elephant and had dinner with bush pigs and bush-babies. The food was great, including a hot lunch packed for us in the bush. Everyone on staff was friendly and super helpful. It really feels like you’re surrounded by nature, and we’ll definitely go back.
