Holiday Inn Bournemouth

The bar’s beer and cider range has been cut back considerably, and the bottled cider we got was off. It smelled and tasted like vinegar, as though it had been stored somewhere warm before being chilled. I’m a publican, and even the bottled beer wasn’t up to par. There’s been a noticeable drop in standards since we last stayed six months ago. We’ve been coming for a few years, and the hotel used to feel friendly and welcoming. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, the location was fantastic for getting to the beaches and town, and breakfast was a standout compared with similar hotels. This time the food wasn’t good: it was overcooked, there seemed to be little care, the selection was much smaller and the cheaper products showed. I wonder if management has changed, because the welcome and staff attitude felt very different too. It’s disappointing. They need to do better, as this isn’t the standard we’d come to expect here.

The staff were excellent, professional, attentive and dedicated. The gentleman running the breakfast area was fantastic, and Ricardo stood out as one of those old school hospitality people for whom nothing is too much trouble. He seemed focused on delighting customers whenever he could. Really impressive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It’s conveniently placed for the town centre, seafront and University accommodation if you’re visiting your kids, with plenty of places to eat nearby. The hotel’s own facilities are great too. Breakfast quality felt a step above the buffet meals at competing budget hotels. I’d definitely stay again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

The room was lovely and clean, the staff were helpful, and the service was very good. If you’ve got a big car, use the downstairs car park because the upstairs one is small.

Nothing to complain about, but nothing especially good apart from the staff. It’s perfectly fine for one night: clean, well located, with really friendly, attentive people and free parking, which is a bonus. Breakfast was okay. It’s okay.
