Having a park right outside was lovely, and there were even chopsticks in the kitchen cupboard, a thoughtful touch. The room was tidy and very clean, and the staff went out of their way to help us with check-in and check-out. The hotel’s also just a short walk from the city centre, which made getting around really easy. I’d happily recommend it.

We stayed in room 10 for two nights, and the little balcony looked out over the Christmas markets. The room itself was beautiful and spotless. It’s around a 5-10 minute walk from the station, then another 5-10 minutes to central Cambridge, including the museums, market square and colleges. My daughter and I have just got home, and we’ll definitely come back.

The beds were comfortable and the location was good, but at £178 a night this felt overpriced, especially with no breakfast offered. We booked three rooms and ended up spread across three floors. Getting inside took about 20 minutes because I was told the access code hadn’t been emailed since we booked through another site. A fair in the park opposite also meant a 40-minute wait to get into the car park. The ground-floor room was tiny, with just three clothes hangers in the wardrobe, a wobbly bedside shelf and an overhead-only shower, so washing without getting my hair wet wasn’t possible. There were only three milks for tea and coffee, and the sink was too small to fill the kettle.

Room six made for a rough night: a loud stomping noise came from around the bay window all night, and I struggled to sleep. The sink was blocked and wouldn’t drain properly, and the TV remote didn’t work either. The rooms are basic, though the city centre location is convenient. One night was bearable, but I’d look elsewhere for a longer stay.

I booked this for work because I had a late finish followed by an early start. Check-in was really easy, with the code sent by email, and the location was very good. Our basement room was fine, with a shared kitchen and bathroom. The second shower was out of order, but sharing the working one between three rooms in the morning wasn’t a problem. Street noise did wake us around 4am. The windows aren’t very thick, and with the window at road level we could hear bin lorries, construction workers and even people walking past. It feels a bit harsh to blame the hotel for that.
