We met friends for lunch at this pub, my first time in Lacock. It’s a really old building, though it may still be the newest one in the village. The food was excellent and good value, but it would’ve been better if all our dishes had arrived together. At first the staff seemed a little frosty, though that might’ve been my imagination. After we’d been there a couple of hours, they were fine. It’s a great pub with an authentic atmosphere in a beautiful spot. It’s quite far from where I live, but I hope to go back before too long.

A lovely pub with proper homemade food. I stopped in after wandering around town for a quiet meal and had the ham and eggs. The staff were great, really friendly, and even suggested some local beers. It’s a real hidden gem, and I’d love to stay here on a future holiday. PS: I gave the rooms a 3 only because we didn’t actually stay overnight, which is a shame. Maybe next time.

The view is the only thing this pub has going for it. Three different waitresses were rude and abrupt, with no smiles, and seemed like they didn’t want to be there. The food was even worse. The place was nearly empty, yet we waited ages for our meals. The Brie & Chutney Toastie came on unadvertised wholegrain bread that was burnt, with unmelted brie and scorched, store-bought chutney. The Tuna Sourdough was actually on soggy wholegrain bread, with waterlogged tuna, no spring onion and wilted, rotting salad. Both meals came with stone-cold fries. This place seems to survive on its location alone. It felt like a tourist trap. If a nearby competitor hadn’t been closed, I doubt they’d have many customers. Save your money and go somewhere else.

The staff were kind and welcoming, and breakfast in the morning was very good. We’d stopped in this beautiful village for an overnight stay, and the hotel pleasantly surprised us with its authentic feel. We had dinner elsewhere, so that evening we just enjoyed a beer and some tea. We left with a very warm and pleasant memory of the place.

We brought nine people for a post-Christmas pub lunch and had a great time. They warned us food might be delayed because the place was fully booked, but it took less than 30 minutes and all the meals came out together, which takes some skill. The staff were cheerful and friendly, and the food was spot on. A lovely end to a family Christmas. Thanks to everyone!
