The manager made us feel very welcome, and the room was lovely with great decor throughout. It’s only a short walk to the city centre, yet the hotel sits in a quiet spot with amazing views across the city. Can’t fault it. Hope to come back.

We drove up from SOS in Essex to visit family nearby and were really pleased with our guest house choice. The Tower hotel is quaint, clean and tidy, with comfortable rooms. Breakfast was included and had an amazing range of choices. The location worked well for both the city centre and our daughter’s home. The receptionist was friendly, knew the area and was happy to help with local information. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks for having us!!!

The lady serving breakfast was so helpful and cheerful, and the breakfast itself was very good. My partner and I were visiting Durham for the first time and were glad we chose Farnley Tower. We had a lovely room with an amazing view and a very comfortable bed. We’ll definitely return.

Farnley Tower was a great base for my first visit to beautiful Durham, and good quality for the price. I only stayed three nights but wished I could’ve stayed longer. My room was very comfortable and breakfast was good. The manager was a huge help when I needed laundry done, getting my clothes washed and dried that same afternoon. I arrived a little early and they let me leave my heavy backpack, which made it possible to go to my library research appointment without carrying it up and down Durham’s hilly streets.

The staff were lovely, and breakfast was fine, with the usual full English, omelette, poached eggs, fruit and cereals. My room was basic but enough for a short stay. The radiators were on everywhere and it was unbearably hot. I tried turning the valve to zero, but nothing changed. The hotel’s up a steep hill, so you’ll need a taxi if you’re not that fit. With a car it’s fine, but the car park is small and shared with the Indian restaurant at the same location.
