The free walking tour was a highlight. Lydia was fun and knew the area well, and the hostel also puts on something social every night. There was even a whiskey tasting in the close downstairs, with plenty to choose from, though whiskey isn't really my thing. My pod gave me privacy, and everyone I shared with was kind. The staff were great throughout: Kyle helped me at check-in, Tyler was lovely at checkout, and the bartenders know how to pour. I didn't try the food, but the menu looked good, and guests get a discount. It's about a five-minute walk from the train station, and getting up the stairs was manageable without heavy luggage. This is easily the best hostel I've stayed at. Great people, location, and events. I'll be back on my next solo trip.

There was always something happening, with events most days, a daily morning tour, and evening tastings or other social activities. Some cost a little, some are free, and it was easy to meet people. Stramash is nearby too, with live music and midweek events. We had a great time at the Wednesday dancing night. The former courthouse is a beautiful, distinctive building, and the decor is lovely throughout. The reception and bar-restaurant area are small but work for the space. The pod rooms are compact, as you'd expect, though that wasn't a problem for me. My bathroom was outside the room, which I wasn't sure about at first, but it was comfortable and clean. There are luggage areas outside the rooms for sorting your things. The location is a real plus, right among major sights and within walking distance of lots of good pubs. The staff were so friendly. Tana checked us in, and Rosie ran a beer tasting; both were excellent. Breakfast is good value too. Each guest gets a roomy locker, and the capsules have USB and USB-C ports, with regular outlets above the lockers. They provide hairdryers and small fans, and laundry costs £5 for washing and drying. My only real drawback was the lack of a shared kitchen, so we ate out every night. There's an on-site restaurant, and we were told a guest kitchen is planned for later this year. A memorable stay in Edinburgh.

For my first solo trip, trying a hostel for the first time was a great choice. I stayed in the 10-pod female dorm and loved meeting women from all over the world. The room and bathrooms were very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The staff were kind and ready to help. You can leave bags in the luggage room, and they run free activities during the week, including beer tastings and social events that make it easy to get to know people. The food was decent, with a guest discount. One small idea: stools or little benches in the bathrooms would be handy for setting down clothes, pajamas, or other things. Such a lovely first hostel experience.

The bar's hot chocolate was delicious, and the whole place felt cozy and clean. The decor is really cute and charming. I loved the rooms and bathroom too, especially the privacy curtains and how comfy the pod was. You can charge your devices inside it. The location was amazing!

My 8-person room seemed full on a Saturday, but I heard very little noise. The pods are solidly built and insulated reasonably well, so sounds don't travel too much. The modern decor and clean bathrooms were good, and the staff were friendly, if a little chaotic. They gave me an extra pillow when my neck was sore. I had a large suitcase, so the in-room lockers weren't big enough for it, though they'd fit a couple of big rucksacks. I used the luggage storage before and after my stay, and it seemed secure, with the entry code changed each day. Sunday breakfast was decent. I enjoyed my 24 hours in Edinburgh. Code Hostel is right on the Royal Mile, a very central spot, though the walk from the train station is uphill. The shared rooms are a good value way to stay in the middle of such a popular city. I'd happily come back to Edinburgh and stay at Code again.
