It’s quiet, close to a bus into the city, and was just right for us. The day bus fare is £5.00, and you can tap your card to use buses anywhere until the fare caps at that amount. Our room was clean and tidy, with the cleaner coming in daily to freshen it up. The room itself was good and the shower temperature fine, though the tray flooded a little, so we had to watch it. This is a basic, no-frills place rather than somewhere fancy, so it may not suit anyone expecting luxury. We thought it was great for a quiet night’s sleep.

A comfortable, affordable base for getting out and exploring Edinburgh. The rooms were clean and well cared for, with comfortable beds and simple, practical facilities. I had a really good stay at Edinburgh House Hostel and would gladly come back. It’s good value if you don’t want to spend too much.

We booked the twin room at the Edinburgh house hotel for October 2025, for a city trip with my son. We only needed a place to sleep, and although the price was very reasonable, I’d been hesitant after reading reviews. The room was small and dated, but spotlessly clean, with comfortable beds and a shower that worked well. Staff were friendly and polite. We could walk into town, and public transport was right nearby if we needed it. The location was perfect, and the weather was lovely too. I’d stay again.

The decor won’t suit everyone, especially if you want something fancy, but I just needed a clean, comfortable bed and a decent shower. It looks like work is underway, and a few small changes could improve the appearance. The service was excellent, and it was nice to deal with an actual person. They were considerate and very helpful with my needs as an ambulant disabled guest. I’ll be back.

This may be a house in Edinburgh, but it felt more like a hostel than a hotel, and a dreadful one at that. I booked because money and time were tight after someone else in our group found somewhere cheap. The photos weren't good, but the place was worse in person. Our room was at the top of a steep staircase, small, gloomy and clad in wood that looked like a pile of old shed scraps had been hammered together. The curtains hung loose, and there were dead flies and moths squashed on the walls and ceiling, along with marks that looked like spilled drinks. The only clothes rail hung above the little table holding the tea and coffee tray. At least the kettle meant I could steam iron my clothes. The ensuite was just as grim. Orange grime covered the grout, the shower had black scratches, the drain was uncovered, and paint was peeling from the ceiling. The towels were small, smelled awful, and looked worn out, but we had to use them. The pillowcases didn't match, and the pillows felt ancient, so I couldn't bring myself to look underneath them. The bed itself wasn't too bad, I suppose. We'd paid for two non-refundable nights but couldn't face staying the second night, so we left the next day. I'd give it zero stars if I could.
