Edinburgh Marriott Hotel Holyrood

The location worked well for sightseeing, with Arthur's seat directly across the road, Parliament next door and Holyrood Palace nearby. It took about 15 minutes to walk from the St Andrews tram stop, and bars, restaurants and most sights were within easy reach. There’s also a Tesco express almost next door. The hotel was clean throughout, and we enjoyed using the pool and sauna every day. Breakfast had plenty of hot food, cold meats and salads, plus great coffee from the machine. You could also order freshly prepared extras at no extra cost. Thanks to Mike for his warm welcome and care at breakfast. All the staff were polite and helpful. Reception let us check in early so we could leave our cases, and they were professional and courteous. The room was spacious enough for us, with a comfortable bed and a good-sized bathroom. The fridge was switched on but never cooled during our stay. I believe this was our first Marriott Hotel experience, and from our point of view the visit went well.

I haven’t stayed at the hotel yet, but I’ve dined in the restaurant and thought the food and drinks were great. I recently joined Holyrood Spa for access to the gym, pool and sauna. Beth has been lovely about showing me around the gym and helping me feel comfortable there. The equipment is good quality and easy to use, and the heated pool is a decent size. Changing areas are clean, well kept and have everything you need. Membership also gives discounts on restaurant visits and spa treatments, so I think it’s worth it.

Holyrood Palace and the Royal Mile are each about a five-minute walk away, so the hotel is well placed. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful, and our clean rooms had their towels changed daily. Breakfast had a good selection and was well stocked. If you're driving, note that the hotel is on the edge of the emissions zone, so check that your vehicle complies. We parked in the basement at Dynamic Earth. With the 20% discount for Sun-Fri, it cost £92.

Tiwari at the bar was so welcoming, friendly and helpful, and he made my visit more enjoyable. The location is right in the centre, ideal for exploring. I stayed in February and liked my spacious, clean room. It was cold, though, because the control panel wasn't working. I called reception three times, and the only fix offered was an extra blanket. Still, I had a good experience overall.
