Kildonan Lodge Hotel

The room was freezing, and there was no way to change the temperature. We ended up sleeping fully dressed under the covers. Staff had left for the evening, so there was nobody to contact, and there was no welcome pack with useful information. One sheet was badly torn, the mattress and pillows were rock hard, and we both woke up aching after the two nights. After the first night, we were close to giving up and leaving. There was also a lot of someone else's hair in the bed, and the toilet bowl was badly scratched. The bathroom smelled of drains, so we had to keep its door shut. The top of the bed canopy was filthy and covered in dust, which affected my allergies and asthma. The website promises streaming “like Netflix,” but it's only digital TV. We paid £300 for two nights in a superior four-poster room. This isn't a four-star hotel. Even at half the price I'd be disappointed. The Lodge ruined our short break. Don't book here.

I loved the Edinburgh character of the property, especially the spacious lounge and the backyard. The staff were friendly, and there's a bus stop just a minute away. I could have stayed nearer the city centre, but I preferred this distinctive location. The room I was given, though, was very small.

The staff knew who we were and why we'd come, which made our special family trip feel extra lovely. The lounge was a great place to wait for the rest of our group in the morning, and breakfast was delicious. The breakfast team were especially kind about the little menu changes several of us asked for. Kildonan Lodge is beautiful inside and out, with such a warm feeling throughout. We honestly couldn't have asked for more. Thank you to everyone who made the trip easier and special, it doesn't feel like “thank you” is enough.

The team even helped get my phone back to me after it had been lost and recovered somewhere outside the hotel. They took responsibility for sending it, packed it carefully with the right paperwork, and it reached me in the States in three days. That kind of care and accountability is rare now. We stayed in the Four Poster (Black Watch) room, which was comfortable and well equipped, with a hot shower. Breakfast was delicious and there was always plenty, thanks to attentive staff. We loved our stay at the Kildonan Lodge Hotel. From there, we could walk to Old Town or tap onto a bus at the stop right outside. You can't go wrong choosing this hotel.
