The restaurant was full every evening, and it’s easy to see why. The food coming out of the kitchen was so good, and I can’t praise it enough. Thanks to the chef, being away from home was all the more enjoyable. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout, and I felt at home by the river. I’ll definitely be back. I spent five days at The Stag on The River near Milford, Surrey. My room was spacious, with a great bed and mattress, lovely cotton sheets, and soft down pillows and cushions. There was a nice selection of tea and coffee, and the bathroom had soft towels and plenty of toiletries.

I’ve never written a review before, but this was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. The rabbit pie was first class, and the cheesecake pudding was terrific too. Four of us had lunch on Friday 6th March. Well done!

We went for Valentine’s weekend and could switch off from our busy London lives straight away. Matt and the team did so much to help us settle in. The rooms are really cosy, the bed was very comfortable, and the food was out of this world. Try the sticky toffee pudding. There are lots of great walks nearby too. Thanks, Stag on the River. We’ll be back.

There was a good choice of meals and the service was good, but the fish pie let me down. It had very little fish, and the potato topping was watery, so it didn’t feel worth the price. I’d still come back, though I’d skip the fish pie and hope my next choice is better.

We were four adults and two young children having Sunday lunch on Sunday evening, and the food was very disappointing. The lamb was chewy and very pink, the vegetables were cold, and the cauliflower cheese tasted strongly of mustard. The roast potatoes weren’t appetising, and the chicken in the children’s meal was disappointing too. At £24 per person, I expected much better quality.
