Built in 1600, this is a historic coaching inn situated opposite the old market place on Great Dunmow's High Street and has been welcoming visitors for nearly 400 years. The restaurant is excellent, and the breakfast chef deserves a special mention. Both the poached and fried eggs were cooked perfectly. My room was quiet and stocked with tea, coffee and a couple of good quality biscuits. During my four day stay, every staff member I met was polite, sociable, helpful and excellent at making me feel important. All in all, an excellent place to stay. Thank you so much.

Superb stay! I don't think I've ever stayed somewhere this comfortable in England, and I felt really welcome too. Lots of pillows, an extra comfortable bed, and exceptionally good, high quality shower gel. The curtains block out the light well, and there was a nice radio. Nothing to complain about.

Everyone on staff was so friendly and attentive, a big reason we'd come back. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant, and both meals were good quality, with generous portions and fair prices. The room was clean and comfortable, with everything we needed. The shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water. A wonderful stay.

Fab breakfast, comfy bed and pillows, great for one night. The generator outside the pub is noisy though, so glad we didn't try to sleep with the window open 😆 No idea why hotels all go for ambient lighting 🙄 It was bloody hard to see anything in the room!

The open fire in the pub downstairs was a real comfort. The rooms were comfortable and well kept, and the staff were genuinely lovely and considerate. We were there for a funeral, and couldn't have asked for a more welcoming, thoughtful place during a difficult time. We'll be back under happier circumstances. See you again soon.
