The Queen S Head

The pub was a great place for dinner on Saturday. There was plenty to choose from, the food was lovely, and they had good wines and some great beers on tap. Breakfast was very nice too. I went for the full English, but there were lots of other options. Our room was fantastic, nicely decorated, and the shower had loads of pressure and hot water. Parking was available, which we used. The staff were friendly and very helpful. A great spot for a stay, a meal, or a drink. Five stars, highly recommended.

The room was so comfortable and really well equipped, and the pub itself is first class, warm and welcoming. The staff were brilliant. Service this good feels hard to come by these days, so it was especially appreciated. I’d give it ten stars if I could, and I’ll always book here when I’m back in Kingston.

We had breakfast after rowing this morning, since the Queens head is just up the road. I hadn’t known they served breakfast, but I’m glad we tried it. The avocado and poached eggs and the two full English breakfasts were delicious, the eggs were cooked just right, and the coffees were great. Mostly I want to give Lara credit. She was attentive and personable, and handled a very offensive customer with real grace. He kept threatening to leave a bad review naming her, though even his dining companions seemed fed up with him. We wanted to get our review in first. Hospitality staff have to put up with a lot. Thanks to Lara and the kitchen for a lovely breakfast.

We’ve often had friendly, well-run visits here for drinks with friends or work colleagues, and sometimes a meal, so last night was a letdown. I came with my wife and my son joined us later. He ordered a burger, and my wife asked if the shared beef nachos could be made vegetarian since we don’t eat meat. They said they could leave off the chili. What arrived was just a small plate of tortillas with a couple of spoonfuls of salsa and guacamole, plus a squirt of mayo. I asked if this was really the sharing platter, since it didn’t look like enough for two. The young woman said it was. I also asked whether the price could be reduced because only half the dish was included, but was told they couldn’t lower it. When I asked again, she said it was about portion control, which didn’t seem relevant. We paid £17.50 for half a plate of tortillas and a couple of dollops of salsa and guacamole. Poor value, and my questions weren’t resolved. I won’t order food here again, and I’ll tell friends and colleagues in case they’re thinking of coming in hungry.
