The Woodland cabin was spacious and cosy, and our puppy loved it and the surroundings. We came to the Chevin in Otley for my husband’s birthday, looking for somewhere nice to gather friends and try something different. They were running a Murder Mystery event with the highly rated Murder One events company, which seemed just right. Tyran, the hotel’s event manager, was fantastic with the tickets, booking and making sure we had the right cabin and the support I needed. The event was great, the food delicious, and we were all entertained. It was a perfect little staycation near pubs and restaurants, and we’ll definitely return. I can’t recommend it highly enough. They also have cabins with hot tubs, which I’m keen to try next time.
The breakfast was very good, with a wide selection, and the staff were lovely and welcoming from the start. Unfortunately, upkeep and cleanliness brought the stay down. At the spa, many changing-room lockers were out of order, there was only one private changing cubicle, the showers weren’t clean, the steam room was closed, the pool was freezing and the jacuzzi didn’t look clean. Staff tried to warm the pool with hot water from a hose after we complained. We appreciated the effort, but it took a long time and made little difference during our visit. Our lodge initially looked promising, with two small bottles of Prosecco and tea-making facilities. But the bathroom was dirty and the carpet stained, as if some areas had been missed. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, the duvet too heavy, and we slept poorly. The TV remote was a different brand from the television and didn’t work. The staff were friendly and there were some nice touches, but the facilities need better cleaning and care.
The hot tub was a real highlight, one of the best I’ve used, and the food was lovely, better than we expected. The staff were wonderful, friendly and helpful throughout. We’d been wary after reading some reviews, but ended up having a really enjoyable stay. The rooms need refurbishing and had a slightly fusty smell when we first walked in, though they were clean and comfortable enough. The spa also needs work: the jacuzzi could use an update, and parts of the floor had green, slippery slime on them. It needs a thorough clean and felt unsafe to walk on. The hotel isn’t perfect, but despite my low expectations from the reviews, we were pleasantly surprised and had a lovely visit.
The food was only okay and not worth the price given the state of the facilities. I visited on Thursday 24th February for what was supposed to be a birthday spa treat, but it was a complete disappointment and felt unsafe. The place was filthy and poorly maintained: mouldy showers, a light hanging off the wall, and a useless sauna. The steam room was closed, so I can’t comment on it. The pool was freezing and the hot tubs were dirty and uninviting. The sun room roof was leaking and had huge holes in it, which is unacceptable for somewhere selling a relaxing spa experience. This felt more like a birthday disease-catching day. Absolutely foul. I wouldn’t return and would strongly advise others to avoid it.
We’ve stayed five times, so they’re clearly doing some things right, and this was another three-night visit for my sister and me last weekend. The room was spacious and lovely, though a bit cold at the end of January. They brought robes, slippers and an extra heater, which helped. The staff were friendly and polite, especially Tracy and Sue at reception and Kelly and Mackensie in the dining room. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was lovely. The yoghurt pots were yummy, and the cooked breakfast tasted good, though the hash browns seemed cooked in old oil. We also enjoyed some bar snacks. The hotel, and the spa too, could use some money spent on them.
