Gales Of Llangollen

We only stayed one night and were travelling light, so the lack of a wardrobe or coat hangers in room 2 wasn't a big issue for us. It might be awkward on a longer stay, though, or if you had special occasion clothes with you. Otherwise, it's a lovely, friendly hotel and wine bar.

I’ve been walking around and visiting pubs and wine bars for years, and Gales Wine Bar stood out. I dropped in for open mic night and had one of the best evenings I’ve had in a long time. There was a real community feel, with brilliant performers and fantastic music. Anton welcomed me with a smile and a kind word, even while serving several people. Lizzie was lovely too, helping people find seats, smiling, and offering table service. It all made the night feel relaxed and well looked after. I’ll be back next time I’m in town.

We were told our food would take 30 minutes, but waited an hour and a half, and the dishes came out separately. Staff kept forgetting what we’d ordered and were rude. We felt judged and disliked. The place wasn’t especially busy, but the atmosphere was depressing, and our drinks had no ice. As we left, staff pointed at us and gave a sarcastic farewell after noticing we’d seen them. Very off-putting. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re not local.

The sharing plates and drinks were lovely. The oil tasting with bread was fabulous, just what the Dr ordered!
