The beds were comfortable, the walk-in wardrobe was nice and big, and the shower was lovely. My wife and I really enjoyed our August Bank Holiday weekend here. The rooms and décor could do with an update, but I think that would take away from the place’s feel. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes a bit of character in where they stay.

The staff were great and very respectful, and the price was good, especially for somewhere close to Hyde Park and the tube, with Winter Wonderland nearby. The room was another story. It felt old and badly in need of renovation, with very dirty carpets and lots of marks on the walls. I didn’t feel comfortable staying in it. I’d expected a full English breakfast, but it turned out breakfast was croissants and cereal.

For what we paid, our stay was perfectly fine. The room was clean and warm, everything worked, and it had what we needed. Breakfast was adequate, though I would've liked orange juice, and the pillows were really lumpy. I can see the hotel needs serious investment and refurbishment, but I find it hard to relate to some of the very bad reviews. I know standards vary from person to person.

Avoid this place. The breakfast was barely continental, just tea, coffee, toast and fruit, and the only toaster was broken. The young receptionist communicated poorly and looked slovenly. The whole hotel smelled musty, was dirty, and seemed to be falling apart. Its promotional photos are misleading, and even calling it two stars would be generous despite its four star listing on booking.com. Our room had a wall light hanging from exposed wires, a broken toilet seat and just one face towel. There was also a mouse trap under one of the beds. The shower only trickled, and the hair dryer seemed to work better switched off. This place belongs in the Victorian past.
