The Z Hotel Tottenham Court Road

The service was great, and the hotel was very clean and well located. The prices were reasonable too. The rooms are extremely small, though. I’d have liked the elderly people in our group to have been given a larger room. I’d book again, but not with a large suitcase, there’s no space for luggage.

The location was very good, but I was disappointed with the hotel. My room was so cramped there wasn’t space to open luggage, and it wouldn’t work well for more than one person. It might be okay for a solo traveller with a backpack. The room wasn’t soundproof, so I heard people in the hall and even people fighting outside. It also hadn’t been cleaned properly: there were used earbuds on the floor, and I kept finding hairs in the bed. One receptionist was smoking outside the hotel, then came back in to check me in, which didn’t seem professional. On checkout day, the lift was out of order. The hotel says staff will help with luggage, but nobody was available. I paid about €100, so the stay was okay for that price. If it had cost more, I’d probably have stayed elsewhere.

The cafe staff member Pemba served us attentively and professionally, and the cheese and wine experience was really enjoyable. That’s the reason for the five-star rating. We were upgraded to a very nice penthouse room, but it got hot as soon as the blinds went up. The floorboards also felt very wobbly and badly water damaged. I’m unsure about the building’s structural integrity in the future.

The room was quiet at night, even with a noisy bar just down the road, and we had everything we needed despite the small size. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay. We’d definitely recommend it.
