The food really stood out, with a good choice of dishes and lovely quality. It’s a family-run business, and the owner and staff were very friendly and attentive. There’s a snooker table and darts in the bar, plus seating in the garden and a large free car park. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the place itself is quaint, in a quiet village. It’s a good peaceful base for Cadwell park racetrack. We had a lovely stay and I’d definitely recommend it.

The menu changes with what’s available, so you can’t rely on the online version being current. The food is seasonal and well sourced, and you can taste the care in how it’s cooked. Portions were generous and everything tasted fresh. Even the children’s menu was made in the kitchen, not pulled from the freezer, including the fish fingers. We were staying at a nearby lodge, less than 2 miles away, and found this cosy little pub. Staff were busy but attentive. Watch your head on the low beams if you’re 6ft or taller. A real little gem, and a great experience.

We’d been looking forward to Sunday lunch, but it was disappointing and mediocre. They served it in a soup bowl because they’d run out of dinner plates, and that wasn’t acceptable. In reply, you shouldn’t accuse customers of lying or threaten to remember my name. That isn’t professional. Take the criticism on the chin or do better.

The pub was clean inside and had a relaxed feel. Staff were lovely and friendly, and let us park there while we did our 10k hike. We came back for food and a drink, though the sandwich and chips took 35 minutes, and the outside looked a little run down. Still, I’d put it closer to 4.5 out of 5 and would definitely come again.

Adam and Victoria at the Black Horse Inn were so helpful from our first contact right through to hosting a wake for an elderly friend from the village. They understood what we needed and took the pressure off us. The pub was closed for our private gathering, and felt warm and welcoming, with plenty of tea and coffee and a lovely buffet that was just right. Thank you, Adam and Victoria.
