The room was cosy, and I liked having a little tea station. It was a quiet, beautiful area, and we slept really well. I even spotted red squirrels from the window. The hotel is a bit out of the way compared with others nearby, so check where it is before you need to arrive, especially if checking in late. We were there for a wedding nearby. The gentleman looking after us was welcoming and friendly, and we especially enjoyed breakfast, a welcome help after a bit of a hangover. He had vegetarian options ready for my partner, which was perfect. I’d recommend it, particularly if you’re on a budget. Thanks to the staff!

The room had fresh sheets and was okay, but it never seemed to get warm. Getting in was a poor start: it was raining hard, and we had to call a number and wait for the host to let us in. Once inside the grounds, the old boarded-up otterburn hall and the coach House opposite were the first things we saw, after a dramatic-looking road in. I was only there for one night, and that was enough for me. We were meant to have an evening meal through work, but the host saidamma said the bar wasn’t open on Mondays or Tuesdays. With the remote location, that meant driving back to otterburn to find food. In the morning I got a half-decent English breakfast, but no one explained what was or wasn’t available, so it would have been nice to know about options like sausage or beans. The room also had a door code. Unfortunately, I won’t be back.

The room was good value, breakfast included, and the breakfast itself was 10/10. The shower was so small I couldn’t move around in it. Nothing nearby was open at that time of year, so we had to go into town. Still, we had a lovely stay.

We had a lovely full English with wholemeal toast for breakfast. Cereal, yogurt and jam were on the table too, though the cooked breakfast was more than enough for us. Sivah was friendly and polite, and told us about the park nearby, its walks, red squirrels and deer. We ran out of time to do the walk, but will return to The Coach House and hopefully do it on a dry day. It’s a beautiful, very quiet area. We stayed one night and, despite arriving late, Sivah came straight to help when our bedroom lights didn’t work and moved us to another room, number 11. It was comfortable and clean, with plenty of tea and coffee. The hotel needs some maintenance, but you can see the owners are making progress with the work. A great stay for a brilliant price.

I ended up staying here because my lodge was booked out. Siva looked after me brilliantly. The owners only took over this year, and the place could use a little TLC, but they seem to be heading in the right direction. The breakfast, service and cleanliness were amazing, and the value for money is second to none. Highly recommended.
