George Oxford Hotel

We left three bags around midday on Tuesday through their luggage storage service, which is advertised on places like Bounce. The man at reception was rude and unhelpful. We asked for a ticket, tag, or some sort of confirmation to identify the bags, but he refused and said it wasn't needed. He took a few photos quickly. When we asked him to keep the bags together so they wouldn't get mixed up, he lost his temper and said, “We have hundreds of thousands of bag drops a day. If you’re not happy, then take your bags and just go.” We'd already paid through the app, so we left quietly because we were worried he might deliberately interfere with our bags.

The staff were really pleasant, and the room was very clean. They'd left plenty of tea, coffee, and biscuits, plus toiletries including shower caps. It's very handy for the city centre and close to the Oxford canal, where there's a lovely walk. There are also several good pubs nearby for breakfast and meals. We heard some outside noise at night, but that's to be expected in a city, especially on a Friday.

It's a shame about the state of the place because the location is great. Although the room seemed clean, the hotel is run down and needs serious renovation. The room got very hot, and the road outside was loud. When the people in the next room used their shower, dirty water came up through our shower drain and the smell was awful. The shower panel also kept falling off. A staff member seemed friendly, but I wouldn't stay here again.

For one night, it was excellent value. The location is superb, check-in was quick, and the staff were friendly. The rooms are basic but very clean.
