We were comfortable for the whole week, even though the room was fairly basic and seemed more suited to a quick stopover on the Coast to Coast walk. It's an excellent deal and has an en suite. The pub is very friendly, the food is excellent, and the atmosphere is warm. After a day traipsing around the Lakes, the real fire was a welcome sight. Handy for the M6 with absolutely no traffic noise, and about a 30 minute drive from the Lakes.

We liked it so much that we've just booked another three night break. The rooms are tidy and clean, with huge beds and a nice, spotless en suite shower room. Our sleep was very quiet and peaceful. The pub has a large bar and plenty of tables in a spacious room, and the landlord and staff are so friendly they make you feel part of the family. The food was hot, generous and very good quality, the beer was good, and room and meal prices were reasonable. There's parking for about six cars right outside. A great café is 200 metres up the main road, while a post office and general store are 100 metres along the side street. It's fairly close to the M6 and A66, and a 45 minute drive from the hills and lakes. Can't wait to return.

Booking was essential, and I'm glad we did. We were told our Sunday lunch would take 40 minutes, but the pub's atmosphere made the wait fly by. For £16, the roast was very generous, with plenty of vegetables and meat. It was tasty, the staff were efficient, and the place had a great feel. We'll come back when we're next nearby.

The food here was the standout: simple dishes done very, very well. The portions were huge, the beef was excellent, and the vegetables were cooked just right for us. The Yorkshire puddings were big and beautifully made. We had a really excellent Sunday lunch, better than nearly any other pub Sunday meal I can remember. Staff were lovely, and the village is beautiful.

A lovely village setting, and an amazing pub. Great rooms, food and drinks, with excellent hospitality and staff. I can't recommend it highly enough.
