Spring Bank Aparthotel

It's in a great location, and with fresh decor and better cleaning this could be an excellent place to stay. The room on the lower ground floor where I stayed, and my friend's ground-floor room, both need painting and the holes in the walls fixed. My room also had a badly stained carpet, and the bed needs a new mattress because the springs had completely gone.

The beds were absolutely shocking. The mattresses were worn out, with noisy springs poking through, and half of mine had collapsed. Nails were sticking out underneath and nearly tore my hands. There were cobwebs in the bedroom and bathroom, and the toilet seat was half hanging off. The place is very rundown and clearly needs a lot of money spent to bring it up to standard. It's cheap, but the beds, bedding, furniture and fittings show why. I wouldn't recommend it or stay again. Booking was easy, and check-in was fairly straightforward, though you have to call the mobile number on the front door. They let you in, tell you which room to go to, and you pick up electronic keys for the bedroom and front door. It's easy, but impersonal. The included breakfast is continental and self-serve in the basement. I didn't have any, so can't say how good or bad it is.

The only downside was getting just one towel in the room for two of us. Otherwise, it was an excellent find: clean room, good shower, and a fan in the bedroom. A friendly man let us in, and checking in by phone meant we could arrive whenever, which was a bonus. The self-serve continental breakfast had cereals, toast, croissants, crumpets and more. Great location, and I'd highly recommend it.

Breakfast comes included in the price. It's a cosy spot near the train station, with clean rooms, good heating, and really soft, comfortable beds.
