Hampton By Hilton Rochdale

I’ll happily stay here again on my next visit. I live in Vienna now, and I’ve often talked Rochdale down and expected little from my hometown. The town centre has improved a lot, and Rochdale feels like it’s on the up. The Hampton by Hilton fits that positive change well. We were only here for one night, but the hotel exceeded my expectations. It was easy to find on a quiet road off John Street, beside the new shopping district, and I liked the modern look of the building and area. Our room was stylish, spotless and comfortable, with a generous bed. I slept better than I have in quite some time, and from the fourth floor we had a lovely view of the Town Hall. Breakfast had a decent range and was fine for a hotel, though I prefer freshly filtered coffee served at the table to machine coffee.

The staff and the shower are what will bring me back. Both really stood out. The breakfast was fantastic too. My partner has stayed here a few times and thought I’d love it, though I’m picky and wasn’t convinced. Turns out I loved it. It’s right in the town centre, with no parking at the hotel, but there’s a very cheap option nearby and reception can get you further discounts. The rooms are generous for the price, with really comfy beds and two big pillows per bed. There’s also a smart TV with Sky.

The buffet dinner was great, and the pasta was among the best I’ve ever had. Breakfast was good too, with everything available throughout, and even the bar staff were excellent. I was lucky to be booked here for a weekend away with Caledonian travel. It’s the best hotel I’ve stayed at on one of these trips. Five stars from me.

I won’t stay here again. The bedding was visibly dirty and smelled unpleasant, like body odor, and the room had only one cup and one coffee sachet. Parking also cost far more than I expected. The staff were repeatedly rude and unhelpful, making the atmosphere feel hostile. One staff member spoke excessively, had dilated pupils and behaved in a way that made me suspect intoxication or substance use. The hotel also seemed to attract disruptive guests, some of whom appeared to be struggling with drug addiction. With the inattentive staff, the place felt neglected and disorderly. I’d advise people to look elsewhere, as this stay fell below basic standards for cleanliness, service and safety.
