Breakfast was a real treat, and we liked being able to choose a time the evening before, with early and later options. I had poached eggs, vegetarian sausage and brown toast, while my husband chose scrambled eggs, bacon and toast with jam. The French press coffee was excellent. We stayed in Room 2, up the stairs. It was clean, cozy and looked after well. The bed was large and comfortable, with lovely sheets and a good cover. The shower was hot with strong pressure, and there were two huge bath sheets. Antoinette welcomed us warmly when we arrived. In the room, the tray had a kettle, mugs, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and clean glasses. We also spent time in the pleasant downstairs sitting area and enjoyed one of the board games. The Glen Hotel was a highlight of our UK trip, and we'd stay again when we're in the area.

We found The Glen a charming place, with plenty of character and a friendly feel. The service was impeccable, and the comfortable rooms had a great hot shower. Breakfast is ordered the night before, then freshly prepared and laid out at your table to match your order. A lovely little hotel for either business or pleasure.

The fry up was excellent, the bedding was clean and the shower was good. Beyond that, the stay was dreadful. The room's sofa was grotty, and dust covered the glass shelf under the television, with hairs on it too. Only the front edge seemed to have been dusted. The glass extended past the chest of drawers, and the plastic corner covers meant for safety weren't properly attached. There was just one bedside light, which could easily have been addressed. The 'four poster' bed looked like it had come from a skip and sat so high that getting in and out was uncomfortable. The room hadn't been serviced while we were out for the day: the bed was still unmade and the coffee mugs were dirty. We've never stayed somewhere that didn't service rooms daily, whatever the price. We paid a few pence less than £320 for two nights, which felt like daylight robbery. It wasn't worth anywhere near that. When we found the room hadn't been serviced, we left the key at the front desk and went. That made it an extremely expensive B&B for one night. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PLACE.

The bed was comfortable, but that was the only plus. The room was tiny and had cheap furniture, and the cupboard under the sink had collapsed. At check-in, the person who seemed to be the owner was unfriendly. This was a very basic B&B and not worth the money. Noisy, drunk guests came back at 2am. Breakfast was disappointing too, with slimy eggs and mushrooms, and veggie sausages that weren't worth eating. When the waitress, who seemed to be the owner, collected the plates, she didn't ask why the food was left. Don't waste your money.

Our bedroom was huge, the bed was so comfortable, and the whole place was immaculately clean and well presented. Antoinette and Steve were great hosts and couldn't do enough for us. We had a wonderful three-night stay at The Glen Guesthouse, with outstanding evening meals and breakfasts. We've booked again for March 2025 and would highly recommend it.
