The Hope Hotel

We only popped in for a few drinks with the family on Saturday night, but we had such a good time and felt really welcome. The staff were lovely. It’s a proper little pub, and I’ll definitely be back 👍

The staff were friendly and nice, and they seemed to know what we were signing up for. But having to spend one night here with my husband was a dreadful experience that spoiled the mood of our whole trip. The hotel felt outdated and poorly maintained, badly in need of renovation. Our room was disappointing, dirty, and inconvenient. The carpet was stained and faded, the shower cubicle was barely a one metre box, and the toilet was another shared one metre box. The window was so difficult to move that I could hardly close it. The spring mattress had a bump, and now my back is damaged. Misery at its finest.

It was amazing, and the staff are wonderful. That’s why I’ve gone back to the hotel.

I only stopped by for drinks at the bar and didn’t stay at the hotel. It seemed like a locals’ bar, and the staff didn’t seem to know how to pour a Guinness. They just pulled the lever and put the glass down, without letting it settle or tilting and holding the glass. The floors were sticky, and on a hot day all the windows and doors were shut, so it smelled stale. The garden area was okay, though not exactly picturesque. The biggest issue was a group of people openly smoking weed there and talking openly about the drugs they had on them.
