La Fregate Hotel

We had three courses from the Tennerfest lunch menu, and every dish was delicious. The service was friendly and very good, with a beautiful view over the town, harbour and islands.

The location is about a five minute walk from the city centre, and the food was delicious. You can get small bites from the kitchen until 9pm, which is handy, with the usual hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I loved my stay. My room was huge and clean, with a huge balcony, a comfortable bed, and a lovely view. The washroom was clean too, and the room had just the right feel. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the staff were courteous, professional and wonderful. Cheers to the team!

We paid for a deluxe hotel but got La Frégate, which felt like a mediocre mid-range place. There was no refrigerator or minibar in the room, and breakfast was extremely limited, as shown in the photo “Breakfast buffet.” There was no pool, spa or wellness facility. That might be fine for a three star hotel, but it felt a long way from four or five stars.

The room and the restaurant both have beautiful panoramic views of the port and the other islands. The tasting menu at dinner was excellent, and breakfast was nice enough, though the buffet choices were sparse. The hotel itself has old world charm, including a grand central staircase. The room, however, was very dated and not what I expected for more than £200 a night. It had a tiny shower with an average electric shower, wood chip wallpaper on the ceiling, and exposed wiring along the skirting. The finish around maintenance work was extremely poor. Pipes came up through the bathroom floor without being connected to anything, and the bath panels were falling off. I’d come for a meal, but wouldn’t stay again.
