Marton Guest House

The outside looks neat, but inside felt like the 1980s. When I reached the top-floor room, water was pouring in through the window. The loo seat was broken, the mattress was about an inch thick, and there was no WiFi up there. I left to sleep somewhere else without even trying the shower or anything else. Sorry, but in July, at £110 per room, this wasn’t worth it. I don’t think it deserves more than one star. Cheers!

Our beds and covers were very good, the breakfast was good, and the staff were pleasant. But the room was drab, with basic, tired furniture that needed money spent on the furnishings and paint. There was also a damp smell coming from the below-par ensuite bathroom. For the price, it wasn’t worth it, and we were relieved to leave after our one night. Maurice welcomed us at reception, but things went downhill after that. And don’t let anyone call the walk from the Port to the guesthouse easy, it’s steep.

The staff were amazing and very accommodating. Though I left early each morning and missed breakfast, they packed me a lunch every day. The room was clean and was serviced when I asked. I was there for three nights to take part in the Guernsey marathon. The hotel is on a hill, as most places in St Peter Port are, but I didn’t find it too steep or annoying. Walking into town was easy, and the route down was beautiful. I’d happily stay again next time I’m in Guernsey.

Staff were great and very friendly, the guest house was clean and tidy, and breakfast was very nice with plenty of choice. The location was great too, just a short walk from the bars and restaurants. The rooms were noisy. The man above me sounded either like a Sasquatch or someone wearing very heavy shoes every time he came into the room, even for his 2am pee.
