Royal Ashton Hotel

The location worked perfectly, with the train station and town not far away and pubs and places to eat on the same street. Staff were very friendly, and there’s a nice little dining room where you can eat instead of staying in your room. The room itself wasn’t anything special, but it was very well kept.

There are a few pubs and places to eat nearby, and the cricket ground is very close. The place has a shared kitchen with all the cooking gear, cutlery and pans, and our room, no.9, had a small fridge. We parked at the railway station, which is a four-minute walk away. We’ll definitely come back.

We slept really well: the room was quiet, spacious and very clean, and the staff were helpful. The en suite was much too small, though. The TV signal wasn’t good, the kettle wouldn’t fit under the tap, and there was no light by the mirror, which my wife wasn’t happy about.

We spent three nights here, and the friendly, helpful staff made it a pleasure. Our ground-floor twin was actually a two-room apartment, a nice extra, and the beds were comfortable with spotless rooms. If you arrive by train, the location is hard to beat, with plenty of places for food and drinks nearby. Longrun Meadow and Frieze Hill Community Orchard are also close if you fancy a hearty morning walk. I’d happily stay again.
